We are near the end of the year. We prepare to say goodbye to 2015 and we welcome 2016 with open arms and new resolutions. Whether this is the year you will save more money, lose weight or start the paleo diet, we set these resolutions because we want some change. Usually, this change is to enhance our lives.
Don’t Be Another Statistic
Sadly, statistics shows that most us will give up and forget about our resolution. Only 8% will accomplish their goal. That is a very low number, so here are a few tips to help you overcome the odds.
- Pick a Resolution– when you choose your resolution, make it a goal you really want to accomplish, not something you think you should do. If your resolution feels forced, you are more likely to give up. Be specific about your goal. For example, don’t say I want to lose weight, say I will start the paleo regimen and lose 50 pounds. Don’t forget to set realistic goals. If you weigh 150 and you are 5’10 ft., wanting to lose 50 pounds will not only be difficult but hazardous for your health.
- Make a Plan- After you have chosen your resolution, make a concrete plan. Set weekly or bi-weekly goals prior to each month that you can follow. Write down your goal and plan in a piece of paper and visualize your goals being accomplished. Remember to get creative, invite your friends over to share one of your paleo meals or to go for a walk with you.
- Be Ready to Forgive Yourself – There are times when you are not going to accomplish your short term goals. You might get sick and not be able to work out, or you might not have enough time to cook the paleo meal you had planned to make. Let’s be honest, there will be times when you simply won’t feel like it. People tend to give up altogether at the first sign of struggle. These feelings and circumstances will happen, but the what is important is that you keep going. If today you didn’t feel like it, think about how tomorrow is another day and you can get back on track.
We hope this helps you accomplish your goals. Happy New 2016!
