Sugar Baby!

You don’t have to be on the paleo diet to know sugar has a negative connotation to it. Typically, sugar is not good for you, specially processed, refined and artificial source of sugar. However, sugar can be good, in moderation, if it comes from a more natural source like fruits or raw honey.

What is Sugar?

Sugars are carbohydrates. There are different forms of sugars and is important to note that because your body breaks them down differently. There are:

  • Simple Carbohydrates – made up of one or two sugars. Examples are white flour and white refined sugar.
  • Complex Carbohydrates (starches) – made up of two or more sugars. Examples are potatoes, legumes and whole grains.

Paleo-friendly Sugar Sources

You can use these forms of sugars when you are on the paleo diet:

  • Fruit
  • Raw Honey
  • Molasses
  • Maple Syrup Grade B

Keep in mind that everything in excess is never good, so although these are safe alternatives, it’s smart to keep a balance in your sugar intake.
